Is Your Pilot Out?
It’s that time of year, to make sure your fireplace is in full working order before the weather starts to turn. Follow the steps below to make sure your gas fireplace is ready to go.
Pilot Lighting Reference Guide
To light the pilot on a gas log set, you can try these steps:
- Ensure the main gas supply is on
- Locate the pilot knob, which usually has the positions “Off,” “On,” and “Pilot”
- Turn the knob counterclockwise from “Off” to “Pilot”
- Push the knob in, which releases gas to the pilot area
- While pushing in the knob, use an igniter to light the pilot
- After the pilot lights, keep the knob pushed in for about 60 seconds
- Release the knob if the pilot stays lit
- Turn the knob to the “On” position
- If applicable press the “On” Button on the receiver and adjust the flame height as desired
Here are some tips to keep in mind:
- A delay of 3–5 seconds is normal when lighting the pilot.
- Larger log sets may take longer to ignite.
- If the pilot doesn’t light within 45 seconds, turn the on/off switch off, wait 15 seconds, and try again.
